What's that coming over the hill, is it Black Friday, is it Black Friday? If you're a business owner, manically prepping for your Black Friday promotion, writing distinctive headlines may not be top of your To Do List. But if you want to stand out from all the other businesses filling inboxes and feeds with samey 'SALE NOW ON' lines, you'll need some copy that's a bit more engaging. If only you knew an experienced copywriter who just loooves to craft playful, witty headlines.* Oliver gestures unsubtly at himself *Introducing my Black Friday Headline Kit.It's simple. I'll write you 20 fun headlines that:- Revolve around what you sell (bath bombs, life coaching, whatever)- Cover pre-sale, mid-sale and a post-sale 'thank you'- Mention specific products or discounts, if you want- Give your audience a smile- Are ready for you to make into memes, subject lines, web banners or wherever you wishAll for 200 squid. Well, 200 quid - I love calamari but my freezer's not that big.Sound good? Drop me a DM and let's get cracking.Need some other copywriting support? Just let me know.

One week since I launched Effervescent, and I'm raising a glass of something sparkling (and non-alcoholic, since it's 11:25am) to everyone who's already ordered a copy and/or shared nice comments.Self-publishing a magic book for magicians is a leap of faith, and the response so far has made me I'm v happy I took it. Thank you all!Magicians:- Ordered one? Thanks! It should be with you soon.- Like one? Link's in the comments (or get it from Kaymar Magic, with more dealers to come).Non-magicians: While I wouldn't recommend getting the book, as it won't make much sense (lots of esoteric technical terms), if you want some more magic in your life then you can always book me for your Christmas party. I'm Leeds-based but happy to travel. :)Cheers!

I'm bubbling with excitement to announce that my new magic book for magicians is now available. Why 'Effervescent'? Because my brain is always bubbling away with ideas, and often they're about magic. So it's a fun-filled celebration of creativity - with 19 tricks, 11 ideas and 2 essays.Big thanks to everyone who helped me get it over the finish line, including designer Lucy Sunderland, who did a great job of laying it out and making it pop (see her own post for more). So, if you're thinking of self-publishing a book, I'd say it's a lot of work, but it's worth it to take something from in your head to on your bookshelf. And if you're a magician reading this, you can follow the link in the comments to find out more about the book and dive in.

I ruddy love anything to do with time or time-travel. So it was a joy crafting the copy for Sharon's updated website, because her service has a cracking benefit: she literally gives you more time in the day.As a VA (aka super sidekick), she can tackle your admin, set up seamless systems and keep you on track to get more done.Spend a couple of minutes on her site (link in Sharon's post) to see how to save hours every week.PS Speaking of time, if 'sort website copy' has been on your To Do list for too long, drop me a DM and we can get it done and dusted.PPS Well done to Holly Christie and Amy Newlands for their splendid web design and branding on Sharon's site.

How can 'tricks' from magic boost your creativity? That's what I share in this 5-minute talk from Richard Michie 's Get To The Point event.Have a watch to see how I cram in:20 slides3 practical principles2 tricks6 mini-case studiesAnd 1 unusual item of clothing. It's slightly manic and lots of fun. (Excuse the hopping between lapel and handheld mics as I grab various props)Enjoyed it? Then why not drop me a DM about speaking at your event. And/or go to a Get To The Point evening in Leeds yourself - next one's in October.

What do you get if you cross a copywriter with a performer? Well, me. It's probably why I enjoy giving talks about copywriting - it's where introvert-me and extravert-me overlap. So it was lovely to share some tips on making writing about your business easier with Joanna Lott ACC's The Business of Coaching group earlier this week. A friendly host, an engaged audience, and some fab feedback afterward - Joanna called it 'inspiring', which was nice. So, if you run a group (or podcast/community/etc.) for small business owners, and think they'd benefit from a similar talk, just drop me a DM.

Excellent idea for a great free resource. As Lonnie says, wish I'd had this when I was starting out.

Joanna is lovely to work with and this course sounds great. I know from writing many a website that, when you arrive at the right offer, it makes everything else easier and more effective. Well worth checking out.
